The High Line, a public park on Manhattan's West Side, reimagines the role of public spaces in fostering connected and vibrant communities. Building on its original brand identity, I sought to create a design system that helps users better visualize distances and navigate the park more effectively. This system enhances their overall experience, making it easier to fully explore and enjoy everything the park and its surroundings have to offer.
Problem
- Insufficient notifications about progress made it difficult for people to determine their location.
-
Lacked introductions to certain attractions.
- Insufficient information about specific exits (where people could access the street, including stairs and elevators)
Solution
- Reassure people about their current location by visualizing distances.
-
Introduce people to various destination and attractions to enhance their travel experience.
- Notify people about the locations of stairs and exits to improve their navigation.
Park specific elements
- Linear experience:
- Show progress and change in a single direction.
- Connections to the streets below:
- Introduce moments and stops.
-
Important street and location.
-
Your current location and what to expect next.
- Relationship with the city.
- History
- Introduce High line’s culture and brand identity: the railway.
